About the Chihna
Derived from ‘Chihnayatro’, a classical drama of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the medieval saint of Assam, the annual art journal of the Gauhati Artists’ Guild is published every year since 1976 as ‘Chihna’ meaning ‘Mark’. Since its first publication, the journal has extensively worked in the field of collecting materials of historical significance in an artistic lens, and the diverged opinions of modern and post-modern artists.
It is responsible for connecting western art to north-eastern culture, bringing regional art forms into spotlight, and helping in the fusion of different ideologies, in reference to eminent personalities and events of history. Through this journal, we promote original thinking, and notation of seminal sources for future.
