The foundation of Guwahati Artists Guild and its history.
Fuelled by the different shades of society, and the concealed divinity of nature, the Gauhati Artists’ Guild has been a pillar of artistic salvation showcasing exquisite taste, eloquent observations, and progressive experimentation, since 11th of July, 1976.Situated in the heart of Guwahati, in Chandmari, the team is responsible for the display of intellectual, philosophical and theological themes in colloquial and artistic canvases.
Thanking its inception to connoisseurs of modern, contemporary art in Assam, Benu Misra (in lead) alongside Asu Dev, Rajen Hazarika and many more, with most of them being trained from Santiniketan Viswa Bharati, and Baroda Faculty, the guild has continuously worked with young, and maturing artists to penetrate art in the lives of people, thus contributing to the fulfilment of the dream of an artistic movement, ever since. It is also responsible, not only for preaching, but teaching art, and the aesthetic attributes to the future generations. For the contribution of the guild in the field of art and culture of North-East India., we have been acknowledged by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, an autonomous organization of Government of India.
Art blooms when there is freedom of thought, and expression. It nourishes in an atmosphere of consciousness, and liberal perspective. With these reformative ideas, the Gauhati Artists’ Guild was born, to provide a space for creative, and uncensored thinking to artists; and has played a pivotal role in shaping the society, since then.
